wasabi shrimp roll

I can’t really tell you where the idea for a shrimp roll came from. Perhaps it was a bag of shrimp in the freezer and the longing for lobster. Perhaps it was seeing Paula Deen make a lobster roll, and realizing that it is essentially a glorified tuna salad sandwich. Perhaps it was the one time a year I have hot dog buns in the freezer. Perhaps it was finally time to try out that Wasabi Mayo that has been in the cupboard for months.

Wasabi Shrimp Roll - 2 rolls

  • 2 cups roughly chopped shrimp
  • 1/2 cup chopped celery
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onion
  • 2 Tbsp wasabi mayonnaise (From Trader Joe’s)
  • 2 hot dog buns
  • optional: black sesame seeds and sriracha

Combine first four ingredients.

Toast buns on grill if desired. Top buns with shrimp mixture.

It’s perhaps the best sandwich I’ve had this month.

I LOVE wasabi on anything. I make a wasabi coleslaw that is like crack. I usually just add wasabi paste to mayo, but may have to give Trader Joe’s a try.

What else do you put in the coleslaw? It sounds amazing!

This is perhaps the most inventive and delicious way to fill up a hot dog bun I’ve seen as of late. I love a touch of wasabi on practically anything, particularly seafood. Have you tried Trader Joe’s Wasabi Mayo?

Ok, I’m a tard. I just re-read the ingredients in your recipe and you actually used the very mayo I just referenced. Methinks, I need to go for a mentally invigorating run now.

Well, I’m going to assume that you have tried it….What do you use it on?

This looks so delicious – I was expecting sushi with the title, but was pleasantly surprised to see a sandwich! A sandwich I can make :) I have tons of rolls from a barbeque and some frozen shrimp. I might be breaking out this recipe one night this week. Thanks!!

I love wasabi! This sounds excellent! Don’t you just love when your experiments turn out to be a great success!

wasabi is so good! i was once at a resturant that served a ball of wasabi as as a part of a tuna dish. a woman ate the whole thing at once thinking it was a melon ball. whoops! caused quite the scene!

Oh my gosh, I can only imagine! Wow!
