review: organic bistro chicken citron

Lemon chicken. Spinach. Quinoa. Edamame.

It’s not often you hear those words when describing a frozen meal. I’ve never even seen quinoa in a frozen meal before and you can bet that it piqued my interest enough to try this meal!

I definitely want to try some of the other varieties of the Organic Bistro meals, because I appreciate the high quality ingredients that are used but I’m not so sure I would buy this variety again. I would love to see what the salmon or shrimp meals are like, assuming they aren’t too stinky for the work microwave!

Fan Of:

  • Protein stats (35 grams!)
  • Calorie stats (450 calories) This may sound like a lot of calories, but really I aim to have my meals around 500 calories (give or take obviously) so the frozen meals that are 250-300 calories are a great part of a meal, but this is a meal
  • Organic ingredients
  • Real ingredients
  • Really low sodium content for frozen meals (430 mg)
  • Quinoa, edamame and spinach “side dishes”

Wished:

  • There was a little more flavor (I wanted to add salt)
  • Not as many sun-dried tomatoes (the ratio of edemame to sun-dried tomatoes was a little off in my opinion)
  • There was more spinach

I love all of the ingredients that you listed at the top, so this is something I would be willing to try. I don’t eat too many frozen meals, but this sounds like a good option in a pinch.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen quinoa in a frozen meal either! And it’s a little frustrating that the sodium stats look great, but they didn’t give you much by way of flavor replacements…I’d definitely give that a try over a lean cuisine, though!

I’m always looking for good (with whole foods and without a ton of added sodium, sugar, etc), new pre-packaged meals since they are what I eat all week long! Thanks for the review!

I love the ingredient list! :)

I agree with the 250-300 calorie meals as being just a part of a meal. Not big on frozen dinners, but this one looks great.

Ooh, I love the Organic Bistro line! I wish there were more companies doing what they’re doing. I’ve tried the wild salmon and ginger chicken, and enjoyed them both. I’m a big fan of sun dried tomatoes so I’d probably love this dish!

I’m glad to hear that, I’ll have to try the salmon next!
