kitchen gadget: salad spinner

For someone who makes salad almost every day, I’m not sure why it took me so long to purchase this $20 kitchen gadget. I can tell you that after spinning one batch of lettuce and herbs, I’m hooked. I don’t even know how I survived without it! Drying lettuce on a towel no more!

It produced nice crisp greens that even after being refrigerated for days, still stayed crunchy and ready for lunch-time salads.

This, along with my new wok, are still sitting on the kitchen table, homeless and willing to settle for a less-than-ideal home…I’m hoping to find one for them soon or something else has got to go.

Do you have a cheap, but can’t-live-without kitchen gadget?

I love my salad spinner so much that I have 2. One for lettuce/salad and one for kale or herbs. The other cheap gadget I love is my lemon squeezer. Use it all the time!

What is the difference between the two? I forgot about my citrus squeezer, it broke a while back and I have yet to replace it!

My kettle! Or “tea kettle” as they are called here. In England it goes without saying that it’s for tea! I use it everyday. They cost about $15. How did I live before I could boil my water in 2 minutes flat?! Works a treat for boiling water for the stove too – pasta cooking time reduced significantly. Woopa.

I have wanted a salad spinner for so long but I just don’t have room for it in my tiny city kitchen:( Poor me.

One gadget that I just love is my microplane. I use it for so many things and it barely takes up any space!

I’m still trying to find room – it is literally on the kitchen table for now!

Not gonna lie… there are a lot of times that I don’t wash my lettuce. =/

Cheep and wonderful? My coffee maker. I think it was like $25… it’s a “single serve” but it uses regular grounds (not those expensive little “pods”), makes just enough for ME, and it’s amazing. :D

You are a rebel!! :)
I didn’t think you would qualify your new baby as being cheap. Wonderful, yes. Cheap, hardly!

I love my salad spinner too! But my favorite is my hand crank cheese grater. How did I live without it? And why, ow why, did I ever by pre-shredded cheese?

I LOVE my salad spinner also! Another cheap gadget I love and use all of the time is my spiralizer and my crinkle cutter. I love gadgets.

I’m with Holly. That photo of the spinning lettuce is awesome! I have two inexpensive, must-have gadgets. My aeroLatte is used every morning. I got hooked on cafe com leite in Brazil so I turn my coffee into a latte each morning that that handy thing. The second is my microplane. Zest, cheese, etc. I have it out mutiple times a day.
