baking fail

in whole foods, whole grains, wine

It’s official blogging world. I cannot bake to save my life. While enjoying a relaxing Saturday afternoon at home, pondering what to make for a snack I remembered that I had been dying to try Tina’s Peanut Buttery Bars.  They sounded so simple and easy (not to mention that they looked delicious) and I thought that I SHOULD be able to bake something with 5 ingredients. The fewer the ingredients, the less chances for screw up, right? Well not in my world. :(

I will admit, I changed a few (ok, 3) of the ingredients but according to my Food Science classes, they really shouldn’t have made too much of a difference. I’m thinking that my issue was with the “sweetener” that I used. I didn’t have any agave, so I used 2 Tbsp of some organic sugar crystal things and didn’t make up for the moisture factor that the agave brought. They turned out dry and crumbly, more like granola than the Peanut Buttery goodness that Tina made.
So I had this instead…

Haha yeah,I tend to do a lot of experimenting while baking and I screw up the fine balance of ingredients. But every so often, a gem emerges! Keep trying! :-)

Agave definately reacts very differently than other sugars in vegan recipes.

I can't bake either. To me, it's like painting or photography. It's an art. I'm NO artist. lol

Oh sad! I hate when that happens. I find that I just always leave ingredients out or don't count correctly when I cook. My husband makes me try everything before I serve it… haha
I'm still learning :)

Hi There,
I just found your blog and like your food philosophy. I am a horrible baker, mostly because I just "can't" follow a recipe… I love to cook and adjusting things is usually not a problem when cooking, but when baking it always gets me in trouble… The other day I made some whole wheat pizza dough and actually followed the recipe exactly. To my surprise, it turned out great.. ;)
