book review: Eat, Drink & Be Vegan

by anutritionisteats on April 1, 2010

in nuts, salad, vegan, vegetables, whole foods, whole grains

After seeing “Super-Charge Me” cookies on just about every blog out there and paging through Eat, Drink & Be Vegan I knew that Dreena Burton had something going on and that this was a cookbook that I needed in my collection. Which, by the way, has gotten so large that I’m on the hunt for a larger bookshelf.

Everything in the book sounds delicious and I appreciate the use of real ingredients and not solely fake meat and cheese replacements like some other Vegan cookbooks that I’ve seen. Here is some of what I’ve made – can’t wait to make more and eventually I’ll get to those Super-Charge Me Cookies!

Polenta Croutons & Living Caesar Dressing

Simplest Garlic Bread

I suggest that this cookbook gets a place on your shelves – Dreena’s use of whole grains, legumes and veggies epitomizes what a vegan diet should be – wholesome and delicious.

Quinoa Chickpea Confetti Casserole with Kale

Olive & Sun-Dried Tomato Hummus

Don’t forget about the tea give-away!

I’m not a vegan, but I’ve been so intrigued by some of Dreena’s recipes…they have all the combinations that I usually love!

I’m not vegan either, but I’ve been coveting this cookbook. I love her vegan chocolate chip cookies. I keep trying to justify it, but I have so many cookbooks already. Sigh… your pictures make me want it that much more.

Sounds like an interesting book. I like that you mentioned that real foods are used, no fake cheese or meat. I really enjoy vegan and vegetarian foods, but can do without the faux stuff. :)

Wow, you have some beautiful plating going on there! This sounds like a great cookbook to have around.

About the huuuuge cookbook collection – I would show you ours, but I don’t think I could fit them all in a single camera frame :P Besides, you can never have too many!

I’ve been seeing a slew of delicious recipes from that book pop up all over the food blog-o-sphere, so I’m eager to check it out. I love vegan cookbooks because they not only include wholesome recipes, but also for the introduction to new and interesting ingredients. Teff flour, garbanzo bean flour, etc.
