babycakes nyc

Babycakes is by far the most adorable bakery I’ve ever been to. It’s located on a quieter side street of bustling NYC, but there is nothing quiet about the inside.

It’s cozy and retro feeling, with the tiniest kitchen,  literally the size of my little kitchen at home.

But my kitchen has never seen so many tasty baked goods.

Babycakes specializes in – are you ready for it – vegan, gluten-free, wheat-free, soy-free, casein-free, egg-free, vegan and kosher baked goods. Most of them are also refined sugar-free and made with different flours like spelt, garbanzo, sorghum.

It may not sound appetizing to some, and you may be wondering what exactly they do use but trust me when I say that I doubt you would even notice that it wasn’t full of butter, sugar and white flour.

We sampled a number of their offerings: Spelt cupcake, GF Blueberry Crumbcake, GF Cupcakes, GF Brownie and a GF Pumpkin Loaf for the plane ride home.

Everything was beyond delicious. The Blueberry Crumbcake was probably my favorite, along with the frosting which you can also just get a shot of. Yes, I was tempted.

Babycakes has recently expanded to LA and Disney World, spreading allergen-free and vegan baking all over the US. I might have to squeeze in a visit to the LA location when I’m in town next month. I’m craving some GF, vegan crumbcake. And I never thought I’d be saying that.

I’ve heard of babycakes, but have never been there. It sounds great. I would definitely be tempted to order a shot of frosting!!

I’ve heard so much about the bakery but have yet to sample any of the items. I’m sure they are wonderful and I love the concept behind the place.

I’d LOVE to try a Babycakes cupcake! I blogged about their Disney World location in my last post…Did you know that Disney axed McDonald’s and replaced it with Babycakes?! I think it’s wonderful that “The Happiest Place on Earth” is now serving allergy-friendly treats that will make EVERYONE happy! :-)

I did not know that! Very wonderful news!

i’ve been disappointed in my babycakes experiences – i think the hype doesn’t justify the cost? esp. since i found another gluten free bakery (breakaway bakery) that is just as tasty, cheaper, and a little less fanfare. that said, i wouldn’t throw a free babycake cupcake outa bed.

Be still my heart … frosting shots! I would have to get one (or 3) that’s my favorite part of cake.

Tiffany @ Simply Shaka February 13, 2011 at 9:29 pm

Wow, any place that offers shots of frosting is a place I want to be!
